Brian’s Wine Wednesday: Seghesio Zinfandel = YUM | Lite Rock 105

SeghisioFinding wines that you like can often be a challenge. Parting with $10 – $20 to bring a bottle home that you end up not liking is hard! That simple fact inspired me to do this blog in the first place. Consider me your personal wine-taster!

The best wines I have tried have most often resulted from someone’s recommendation, and that is the case with this week’s wine, the 2013 Seghesio Zinfandel from California’s Sonoma County. My advice: get to know your local wine merchant, the wine person at a restaurant you like, or even someone online. Tell them what you like, and ask if they have any recommendations. I talked with a sommelier about finding a good Zinfandel at $20 or less, and he suggested three, all of which were good, but this was my favorite.

It’s the second or third bottle of Seghesio I have tried, and each has been excellent. Pull the cork and you’ll find nice aromas of plum and cherry, bold cherry flavors, and a solid peppery finish. This has become my go-to Zin, and though it’s a little more expensive than I prefer (around $20), with quality this good, it’s worth it. It’s also on the wine list at Tavolo Wine Bar and Tuscan Grille, where we’re having our next private wine party.

4 corksOn my five-cork scale based on taste and value, the 2013 Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel gets 4 corks!
